Primary Care Track

Research & Education

Our residency program has a unique opportunity for those interested in primary care called the Primary Care Track. On this track, our residents have a more enhanced general pediatrics experience. It is one of the few primary care tracks in the U.S. Residents are able to apply for the track and begin after their intern year. Please refer to the Primary Care Track section for further details.

Enhanced Primary Care Experience

Our primary care pediatric residency program at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital offers:

  • More focus on providing enhanced primary care experience
  • Specialized training that is one of the few primary care programs in the U.S.

Who should consider the primary care track?

  • If you are interested in primary care and think that is what you are leaning toward, THIS IS FOR YOU!
  • Interests in advocacy, community outreach and learning more about the entire ambulatory pediatrics practice including the business side of medicine
  • Flexibility to switch out of the primary care track if you find passion in a specialty
    • Many of our past residents continued on the program and found the training beneficial in the subspecialty arena

Primary Care Program

What makes our program different?

  • Continuity clinics:
    • Working with preceptors in general pediatric clinics around the Greater Baton Rouge community
    • Clinic days are full days instead of half. This doubles the amount of time available in clinic for continuity days
  • Specialized Primary Care Journal Clubs:
    • Quarterly journal clubs specifically on primary care topics
  • Individualized career development for outpatient pediatrics
