Explore our family programs, designed to promote independence and inclusion, enrich the lives of children with developmental delays and disabilities, foster joy and create lasting memories. For more information about these programs please call (225) 923-3420.
Wheels to Succeed is our adaptive bicycle program. Through this program, we evaluate children with developmental delays and disabilities for specially adapted bikes so they can experience the freedom and joy of this fundamental childhood experience. The program is supported by our No Such Thing As Impossible bike ride fundraiser every spring.
Each fall, we hold a Kids Bike event. This event offers our Wheels to Succeed bike recipients a chance to ride together along with their siblings.
Capable Arts Camp is a week-long summer camp for children with developmental delays and disabilities and their siblings. Camp classes focus on different types of art taught by professional artists and culminate in a showcase with a performance and art show.
Each year, therapists, staff, and volunteers create a memorable day for our kids and their families. We adapt canoes to meet everyone’s needs including using equipment specially built for us by LSU engineering students.
Every summer, our kids have the chance to receive their therapy in a unique, fun setting – the LSU Gymnastics training facility. For one week, our therapists are able to adapt their sessions to give their patients an opportunity to socialize with other kids and learn how therapy gains can be translated to a real-world setting.
Learning how to overcome social anxiety and follow instruction is often a critical step for success in the classroom and other everyday settings. Our social worker oversees our Social Skills small groups to help kids become more comfortable with necessary tasks like turn taking, identifying feelings, problems solving, and other things necessary for a fulfilling, independent life.
The Capable Play program is a six-week family program that helps families with the most medically involved members learn how to make simple adaptations to everyday household items. These adaptations make it possible for the whole family to participate in activities from game night to chores to picking clothes for the day. The goal is independence and inclusion. At the end of the program, families take home equipment to make the adaptations a part of their daily lives.
