Training Experience
The specific training areas covered in the Our Lady of the Lake Psychology Internship are aligned with APA Standards of Accreditation and will provide a broad range of generalist training that highlights the incorporation of science and practice within a collegial and collaborative environment. Training components will cover areas such as those listed below:
Required Training Experiences:
- Individual psychotherapy
- Group psychotherapy
- Intake
- Assessment
- Substance abuse interventions
- Multi-week seminars on important areas such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; Assessment; Legal and Ethical Issues; Diversity; Crisis Assessment, Intervention, and Risk Management; Case Presentation; Career and Job Search
Major Specialty Rotations including:
- Outpatient continuity clinic
- St Clare Adult Psychiatric Inpatient Unit
- Psychiatric Consultation/Liaison for Hospital Medical/Surgical/ICU Services
Typical Weekly Schedule
Typically, interns are expected to work 40 hours per week. Hospital holidays can be found here.
Direct Service:
- Behavioral Assessment/Functional Analysis
- Individual therapy: 8-10 hours per week
- Group therapy: 2-3 hours per week
- Emergency and Consultation/Liaison Coverage - 4.5 hours per week
- Psychological Testing- as needed
Training Activities:
- Individual supervision - 2 hours per week
- Group Supervision - 1 hour per week
- Staff Meetings - 1.5 hours per week
- Clinical Case Conference – 1 hour per week
- Grand Rounds (with Psychiatry) 1 hour per week
- Seminar/Didactics – 3-4 hours per week
Other Activities:
- Documentation,
- Case Management
- Research/Dissertation/Job Search- 1 hour per week
