Our Guiding Principles

As part of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System, we have a shared mission, vision and core values inspired by St. Francis of Assisi.

Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital Guiding Principles

We intend to create a place for children and their families

  • For safe, state-of-the-art healthcare that promotes the Spirit of Healing in Louisiana
  • Where the best care is provided to all
  • That is iconic to the community
  • Where love inspires children’s laughter and awakens their spirits
  • That exudes confidence, excitement and amazement
  • With a peaceful, spiritual connection to nature
  • That expresses extreme humility, hope and gratitude to the Lord

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Our Pediatric Residency Program and the FMOLHS care ministry recognize the importance of diversity—both in the workforce and in meeting the needs of diverse patients. We are committed to encouraging diversity and ending health disparities. Our residents and faculty are invited to join the Our Lady of the Lake Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council.

The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council works to ensure alignment with the organization’s mission and operations and establishing a dedicated focus on diversity, equity and inclusion. Our residents and faculty are also encouraged to participate in a facilitated educational dialogue around the understanding of institutional and systemic racism hosted by Dialogue on Race Louisiana. We have a Pediatric Residency Program Committee dedicated to increasing education, awareness and improvement in diversity, inclusion, healthcare disparities, social determinants of health and health equity.

Our resident and faculty curriculum includes lecture-style didactics, online modules, journal clubs and small group exercises. Additionally, we are working to build an FMOLHS mentorship program to better serve under-represented minority residents and faculty and encouraging participation in career development opportunities for underrepresented individuals offered through national organizations such as APA, APPD and SNMA.

We are fostering longitudinal partnerships with key community organizations, churches, schools and businesses that serve diverse groups in our community for outreach and educational purposes. Our residents and faculty support these organizations and our community during dedicated time for resident retreats, Advocacy and Community Medicine rotations, and through advocacy projects and community service.
