Our Lady of Lourdes Women’s & Children’s Hospital is home to Acadiana’s only Pediatric ICU and Level III Surgical NICU. Our neonatal and pediatric transport teams are certified, trained and equipped to handle the most critical transports state-wide, including options for whole-body cooling, high-frequency ventilation and inhaled nitric oxide, 24/7.

Focused on the physical and spiritual health needs of Acadiana’s women and children, Our Lady of Lourdes Women’s & Children’s Hospital has the most OB-GYNs on staff in the region. We have a growing list of on-site pediatric specialists, including general surgeons, orthopedists, neurologists and pulmonologists, to provide comprehensive care to children of all ages.

While in the Emergency Room waiting area, your child may have access to medication to feel better while waiting to see a physician. You may discuss this option with your nurse upon arrival.

Our Lady of Lourdes Emergency Centers have:

  • All Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Physicians and Cardiologists available/on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • 100% RN nursing staff with accreditations in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support.
  • Response times for heart attacks and strokes that consistently beat national benchmark times.
  • Technology such as video laryngoscope for difficult intubations, quick scan ultrasound to start difficult IVs and rule out life-threatening organ involvement in times of trauma and wireless EKG with Acadian Ambulance to be prepped for testing upon arrival.

Beyond the Pediatric Emergency Room

After receiving treatment in the emergency room, your child may be discharged to go home or, if needed, admitted to another area of Our Lady of Lourdes Women’s & Children’s Hospital.

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

Our PICU is designed and staffed to care for the most critically ill children and to provide the region's most comprehensive pediatric services.

Pediatrics Unit

Our Pediatrics Unit is designed for children admitted for both medical and surgical diagnoses. We provide services for pediatric neurology, pediatric cardiology and hematology/oncology patients, including long-term acute care for chronic illnesses.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

We offer Acadiana’s only Level III Surgical NICU. Our neonatologists specialize in newborn care and are trained to diagnose and treat newborn conditions. Our pediatric specialists are also available to assist in general surgery, neurosurgery, hematology/oncology, cardiology and gastroenterology, among others.
