Wound Care

Specializing in Wound Management

For patients with diabetes, vascular disease or simply being bed-ridden, chronic wounds are a health threat. We provide specialized outpatient treatment for patients’ chronic, non-healing or acute wounds. Across our health system, our wound care teams include physicians, nurse practitioners and nurses dedicated to delivering the highest quality of care.

We work to improve the quality of life for all our patients. That means aggressively managing wounds to ensure they heal quickly and completely. We work in conjunction with referring physicians as partners to determine a complete set of wound care protocols to address each patient’s needs. By providing dedicated and specialized attention, we help patients return to a full life free from the pain of chronic wounds.

A patient with a wound who may benefit from specialized wound care may be referred by a physician, health care professional or self-referral. The wound care physician will complete a medical history and physical, order diagnostic tests if indicated, and determine a plan of care following evidence-based guidelines. Treatment will focus on the causation of the wound, co-existing conditions that impact wound healing, and topical wound management.

Our specialized services include:

  • Antibiotic therapy
  • Cellular and tissue-based products
  • Compression therapy
  • Debridement
  • Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
  • Negative pressure wound therapy
  • Non-invasive vascular studies
  • Patient and family education about treatment and prevention of new wounds
  • Pressure off-loading devices and footwear
  • Specialty wound dressings
  • Trained healthcare professionals to care for patients' wounds
  • Treatment of wound infections
  • Treatment plans specific to patients’ needs
  • Wound consultation/evaluation, diagnostic and ongoing assessments and treatment

We work in close coordination with your primary care physician offering frequent updates on your treatment and recovery. We apply evidence-based wound care treatment and technologies with aggressive, outcome-based care and wound management.

Before your treatment is complete, you’ll learn about preventing and avoiding future injuries and wounds, which may include following up with your primary physician or other specialists. We’ll also teach you how to respond rapidly to injuries and how to avoid chronic wounds.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

This treatment strengthens the mechanisms your body uses to heal wounds. While relaxing comfortably in a chamber at greater-than normal atmospheric pressure, you’ll breathe pure oxygen, which saturates your blood plasma and allows it to carry up to 20 times the normal amount of healing oxygen to your body’s tissues. About one in five wound care patients require HBOT treatments, which are provided by physicians specially trained in hyperbaric medicine and our highly trained clinical hyperbaric technicians and staff.

HBOT is indicated for conditions including:

Actinomycosis

Acute peripheral arterial insufficiency

Chronic refractory osteomyelitis

Compromised skin grafts and flaps

Crush injury/acute traumatic peripheral ischemia

Diabetic ulcers of the lower extremities

Progressive necrotizing infections (necrotizing fasciitis)

Soft tissue radionecrosis and osteoradionecrosis
