At Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Institute, we have teams of specialists from each diagnostic, treatment and supportive care discipline working together within the same facility to offer seamless care patients and their families. In addition to the advanced care teams listed , Our Lady of the Lake Physician Group’s more than 600 providers offer a full range of services, starting with primary care. Patients benefit from having one medical record that is shared across all providers they utilize, ensuring each physician has complete details of their care journey.
We know that the best cancer care is care delivered in a multidisciplinary fashion, providing an individualized approach tailored to each patient’s needs. One of the cornerstones of this approach is our use of tumor boards—collaborative meetings where our expert medical oncologists, surgeons, and other specialists come together to review complex cases and develop comprehensive treatment plans. These discussions ensure that every patient benefits from a full spectrum of expertise, leading to more informed decisions and the best possible outcomes.

This is a quality initiative developed by the American College of Surgeons, and we were one of the first 15 programs in the United States to be accredited. In essence, this is a rectal cancer center of excellence, and we are the first accredited in Louisiana. As a requirement of the program, we have rectal cancer tumor board meetings twice a month and present all rectal cancer patients prior to treatment and post-treatment along with a dedicated program manager.
Multidisciplinary, individualized recommendations are given after each discussion for each patient. Rigorous guidelines are required for recertification and maintenance of accreditation of NAPRC.
