Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System Celebrates Women’s History Month
March 22, 2023
Baton Rouge, LA – Women's History Month is celebrated throughout the month of March to recognize the accomplishments and contributions women have made to history, culture, society, and the workforce. As a health system founded by women, Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System (FMOLHS) is eager to celebrate women team members who serve our patients and communities.
Currently 81% of the FMOLHS workforce is made up of women. Additionally, 72% of leadership is female driven and 36% of physicians are female. As part of our commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion over the last year FMOLHS has increased the number of women in the workforce by 16% and the Workforce Development team is currently in the strategic planning phase of creating women physician recruitment efforts.
“As a health system founded by women, we continue to break barriers and work to diversify our workforce. We want the demographics of our providers and team members to better reflect the demographics of the communities we serve. All our team members should feel represented, valued and engaged.” said Tina Schaffer, FMOLHS Vice President of Talent Strategy and Chief Diversity Officer.
Known today as the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady, six Franciscan Sisters came to Louisiana in 1911 to establish a community hospital in the Alexandria area. Since then, the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System has grown to become one of the largest healthcare systems based in Louisiana, it is the leading healthcare provider for more than half the state’s population and has expanded into the state of Mississippi as well.
FMOLHS will be highlighting women team members, leaders, and mentors throughout the health system all month long.
