Completion of 6th Floor Marks Milestone in Advancing Acadiana Initiative
April 03, 2025
LAFAYETTE, LA – Our Lady of Lourdes, part of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System (FMOLHS), is pleased to announce the completion of the Regional Medical Center’s 6th floor expansion, the first of many milestone investments in the Advancing Acadiana initiative. The new floor meets the needs of Acadiana’s growing community, offering an additional 12 beds in the Telemetry Care Unit.
“When we opened on Ambassador Caffery in 2011, the vacant west tower on 6th floor represented our commitment to future community need,” said Stephanie Manson, president of Our Lady of Lourdes Health. “As we open these inpatient beds, our Advancing Acadiana plans pave the way for our next level of growth at Women’s & Children’s and the Heart Hospital. We have a bold vision of expanded clinical excellence for the families of Acadiana.”
Advancing Acadiana is our health system’s bold vision to meet the growing needs of the region, allowing us to treat our patients in the right place, with the right resources, at the right time. Advancing Acadiana is a multi-year initiative that will result in nearly $100 million in investments across all our campuses.
The expansion was celebrated today with an internal ceremony and blessing. Team members took part in a blessing of the hands that are ready to receive our patients. By noon today the unit had accepted five patients with more placements on the horizon.
Work on the 6th floor expansion project began in August 2024. In addition to the increased capacity, Our Lady of Lourdes has hired 25 new team members, including nurses, CNAs, therapists, social workers and more. The project was completed by local design firm Moliere Chappuis Architects and constructed by Kent Design Build.
“This new floor was the first of several expansion projects for Our Lady of Lourdes,” said Gil Humbert MSN, RN, VP, chief nursing officer. “I am incredibly proud of our team’s unwavering dedication to our patients and look forward to working together as we continue to address the growth and needs of Acadiana.”
Further strategic growth is underway on the surgical platform and in the emergency department with open dates slated for later this summer. Construction began in February at Women's and Children's Hospital on the private family NICU suites along with groundwork on the site of the new Chapel. Plans are final for the modernization of the mother-baby unit and labor and delivery wing. All these Advancing Acadiana projects are mapped to completion in 2025 and early 2026.
