Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Institute Achieves Milestone in Robotic-Assisted Bronchoscopy

July 31, 2024

Baton Rouge, LA – Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Institute recently completed its 1,000th bronchoscopy using the advanced ION robotic-assisted technology. The institute is the 10th cancer hospital in the United States to successfully reach this milestone.

The ION endoluminal system, manufactured by Intuitive, allows for advanced maneuverability and navigation through narrow airways to nodules far into the peripheral lung. Abdulla Majid-Moosa, DO, pulmonologist, performed the first case at Our Lady of the Lake on February 15, 2022.

“We are incredibly proud to reach this significant milestone in our lung cancer care after just over two years of implementing the ION technology,” Dr. Moosa said. “This reflects our ongoing dedication to providing the most advanced and effective treatments available to our community and beyond.”

Robotic-assisted bronchoscopy allows for minimally invasive procedures with enhanced control and visualization. This technology is beneficial in diagnosing and treating various types of lung cancer and other pulmonary conditions.

“I’m beyond proud of our exceptional lung team and their commitment to using the most innovative technology and techniques,” said Susan Foret, Vice President of Cancer Services at Our Lady of the Lake. “Our patients benefit greatly from the precision and effectiveness of our experts using the ION robot, and we are excited to continue offering this state-of-the-art technology to improve outcomes and enhance quality of life.”

Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Institute remains committed to advancing cancer treatment and exploring new technologies to ensure that patients receive the best possible care. Learn more about our expert cancer care at ololrmc.com/cancer.
