St. Francis Medical Center Welcomes New Class of Internal Medicine Residents
July 26, 2024
MONROE, LA – St. Francis Medical Center proudly welcomes a new class of residents to its accredited and community-based Internal Medicine Residency Program. This marks the second class for the internal medicine residency program and a significant milestone for both the hospital and Northeast Louisiana.
“We are excited to welcome these exceptional residents to St. Francis Medical Center,” said Thomas Gullatt, MD, President of St. Francis Health. “Their dedication to healthcare excellence and diverse backgrounds will enrich our institution, elevating the care we provide to our community. We look forward to nurturing their growth as they evolve into future leaders in medicine.”
Accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in March 2021, the St. Francis Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program received 4,000 applications for this cohort. Following a rigorous selection process through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP), 15 residents were chosen to begin their medical careers at St. Francis. These residents come from all over the world, adding an international dimension to the program.
“Welcoming this diverse and talented group of internal medicine residents is truly exciting,” said Navin Ramlal, MD, Internal Medicine Residency Program Director at St. Francis Medical Center. “Their unique experiences and cultural perspectives will enrich our educational environment and elevate patient care. We are confident that these residents will make significant contributions to healthcare, both locally and globally, and we look forward to their positive impact on our community beyond their training.”
Over the next three years, residents will engage extensively on medical floors with internists, hospitalists, intensivists, and other sub-specialists. They will rotate through major internal medicine sub-specialties in both hospital and clinic settings and gain primary care experience at the St. Francis Primary Care Clinic-Jackson Street location.
