Organ Donation

Organ Donors Save Lives

In partnership with the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA), Donate Life Louisiana (DLA), and Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency (MORA), our health system leads the way in the markets we serve to save lives through organ donation. There are more than 120,000 people across the country on the waiting list for a life-saving organ transplant. Of those, more than 3,300 are living in Louisiana and Mississippi (2,000 in Louisiana and 1,300 in Mississippi).

Together, we are committed to providing continued support to families after a loved one becomes an organ donor. We also work to help those patients awaiting a life-saving transplant. Visit lopa.org or msora.org to learn more about the organ donation process or to register to be an organ, tissue and eye donor.

Facts About Organ Donation

The numbers are pretty staggering. Each day, 17 people die while waiting for an organ transplant of some type. Every nine minutes, someone new is added to the waiting list. But the impact organ donation can have is equally staggering — one donor can save up to eight lives and make an impact on 75 others.
