BATON ROUGE, LA — Our Lady of the Lake Heart and Vascular Institute has become the first medical facility in the state of Louisiana to offer the revolutionary Pascal Precision™ System. This state-of-the-art medical technology represents a significant advancement in minimally invasive cardiac procedures, further solidifying Our Lady of the Lake Health's commitment to providing cutting-edge healthcare solutions to its patients.
"Introducing the Pascal Precision System to our comprehensive range of cardiac services is a significant milestone for our organization and reinforces our dedication to delivering exceptional care," said Chuck Spicer, president of Our Lady of the Lake Health. “We are proud to bring this groundbreaking technology to our community, allowing us to provide our patients with the most advanced and effective cardiac care available.”
The Pascal Precision System, developed by Edwards Lifesciences, is a groundbreaking transcatheter valve repair solution that offers unprecedented precision and control for the treatment of mitral regurgitation. It provides an innovative alternative to traditional open-heart surgery, enabling physicians to repair the mitral valve in a minimally invasive manner, thereby reducing patient recovery time and improving overall outcomes.
"The Pascal Precision System represents a significant leap forward in the treatment of mitral regurgitation,” said Denzil Louis Moraes, MD, Medical Director at Our Lady of the Lake Heart and Vascular Insititute. “It's precise and minimally invasive approach allows us to deliver highly individualized care, tailored to each patient's unique needs, and providing them with a better quality of life."
Mitral regurgitation is a condition characterized by the backflow of blood into the left atrium of the heart due to a malfunctioning mitral valve. It can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, shortness of breath, and decreased exercise capacity. The Pascal Precision™ System offers a customized approach to treating this condition, tailoring the repair procedure to the unique anatomy of each patient's mitral valve, thus optimizing results.
The first procedure using the Pascal Precision System at Our Lady of the Lake Heart and Vascular Institute was performed by Jorge Castellanos, MD, FACC, FSCAI, an interventional cardiologist at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.
“To have the privilege of conducting the first procedure utilizing the Pascal is a remarkable achievement,” said Jorge Castellanos, MD, FACC, FSCAI. “This advanced technology not only enhances the outcomes of mitral valve repairs but also offers the potential to transform the way we approach cardiac interventions.”
The Pascal Precision System integrates advanced imaging technology with a sophisticated delivery catheter, enabling physicians to precisely place a series of implants that reshape and remodel the mitral valve. This breakthrough technology allows for a more durable and secure repair, reducing the risk of future regurgitation and potentially eliminating the need for subsequent interventions.
As a leading healthcare provider in the region, Our Lady of the Lake Health continually seeks to enhance its services and offer patients the most innovative treatments available. The addition of the Pascal Precision System demonstrates Our Lady of the Lake’s unwavering dedication to providing exceptional care and advancing the field of cardiovascular medicine.
