Our Lady of the Lake Children's Health Hosts Dedication of St. Anthony of Padua Chapel
June 08, 2023
BATON ROUGE, LA — Our Lady of the Lake Children's Health held a dedication of the St. Anthony of Padua Chapel at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital on Wednesday, June 7. The special mass was led by the Most Reverend Michael G. Duca as Celebrant with the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Sisters in attendance.
The chapel, which first opened in 2019, was designed by architect Carroll Blewster, the glass windows on the right interior wall of the chapel take the place of sheetrock. Steve Wilson and Warren Simmons are credited for the design and background of the windows. Moving through all of the windows are fish in the waters which were designed and painted by Simmons, who restored the St. Francis windows in the garden.
“Our Lady of the Lake Health is committed to bringing the Spirit of Healing to each and every patient that we serve,” said Chuck Spicer, president of Our Lady of the Lake Health. “We are grateful to the many people who made the chapel a reality for our patients and team members. The St. Anthony of Padua Chapel will continue to serve as a place of refuge and comfort for families and children entrusted to our care.”
The St. Anthony of Padua Chapel came to fruition thanks to the generosity of many donors to Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Health, including a leadership gift from Suzanne Wilbert Turner.
“Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Health is immensely blessed by the generosity of so many members of our community, and we are grateful to them for the St. Anthony of Padua Chapel at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital,” said Ann Marie Marmande, president of Our Lady of the Lake Foundation. “We are honored to recognize Mrs. Turner’s deep commitment to her faith and children’s health, and to celebrate her early leadership in support of building our freestanding children’s hospital. We look forward to continuing to share the gift of this chapel with the patients, families and team members for generations to come.”
The chapel will remain a place of comfort and solitude as it offers space for prayer, song or receiving Holy Communion. To learn more about Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Health, visit ololchildrens.org.
