Our Lady of Lourdes Women’s & Children’s Hospital gets new da Vinci Xi Robot
November 02, 2023
Our Lady of Lourdes Women’s & Children’s Hospital is excited to upgrade its existing robotic technology to the da Vinci Xi Surgical System including a trumpf table. The da Vinci Xi Surgical System was designed with the goal of further advancing the technology used in minimally invasive surgery (MIS). The System can be used across a spectrum of MIS and in the areas of gynecology, urology, thoracic, cardiac, and general surgery.
“The acquisition of the daVinci Xi for this campus demonstrates our commitment to offering state-of-the-art care in minimally invasive women’s surgery,” says Dr. May S. Thomassee, a gynecology and minimally invasive surgeon with Our Lady of Lourdes Physician Group. “This tool helps to reduce the total impact of the surgical experience, which allows patients to resume activities sooner than traditional methods.”
Key features of the daVinci Xi Surgical System includes:
- A new, overhead instrument arm architecture designed to facilitate anatomical access from virtually any position;
- A new, endoscope digital architecture that creates a simpler, more compact design with improved vision definition and clarity;
- An ability to attach the endoscope to any arm, providing flexibility for visualizing the surgical site;
- Smaller, thinner arms with newly designed joints that offer a greater range of motion than ever before;
- Longer instrument shafts designed to give surgeons greater operative reach.
“Robotic surgery is a cutting-edge development that has far-reaching implications for our patients,” says Alesha Alford, VP, Women’s & Children’s Services for Our Lady of Lourdes Health. “We are thrilled to expand our women services and continue to provide safe, quality healthcare to those who need us.”
The da Vinci Xi System is an expandable technology platform that is designed to accommodate and seamlessly integrate a range of current technologies. Also, it lays the foundation for future innovations in areas such as imaging, advanced instruments, and anatomical access. We are thrilled to acquire this advanced technology and look forward to continuously bringing these surgical options to Acadiana.
The hospital welcomed community members and team members to participate in an interactive, hands-on session with the da Vinci Xi Surgical System. Participants were able to engage in their healthcare utilizing the latest in robotic technology. In addition, a trained professional provided demonstrations on how the System provides more precision for surgeons and positive outcomes for patients.
