September 08, 2023
BATON ROUGE, LA — Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital is recognized as the recipient of the prestigious Athletes for Hope Partner of the Year award for its exemplary dedication to bolstering Child Life efforts. This recognition reflects the hospital’s unwavering commitment to fostering a nurturing environment for children and enhancing collaborations within community athletics.Athletes for Hope, founded in 2006 by a group of athletes with a commitment to serving their community, creates opportunities for athletes to illustrate a positive impact on the world while connecting them to causes in their local areas and beyond. Since its creation, Athletes for Hope has expanded into a network of thousands of athletes – most notably providing opportunities for athlete visits to Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital such as Louisiana State University Baseball’s Paul Skenes and Seattle Seahawks’ Ethan Pocic.
“Connecting with the athletes is one piece of the puzzle, but watching our patients connect with the athletes on our hospital campus completes that puzzle,” said Sharon Wesberry, Manager of Child life at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital. “The Child Life initiatives we continue to set in place will reflect the lasting impact of creating a healthier and more inclusive community. We get to stand in as a second home for those who call on us for care.”
These athletes often host bingo, trivia and special one-on-one introductions with hospital patients. Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Health looks forward to continuing to boast its athletic collaborations, old and new, to improve the quality of life and care for those seeking treatment.
