St. Dominic Announces New Advancements In Minimally Invasive Surgery
July 02, 2025
Jackson, MS — St. Dominic Health announces the recent acquisition of the Intuitive da Vinci 5 surgical system, an advanced technology used in minimally invasive care. This platform is designed to transform surgery to enable better outcomes, efficiency, and actionable insights.
Jeremy Tinnerello, Jackson market president says, "We’re not just investing in technology—we’re investing in better outcomes, more options, and more compassionate care for our community. The da Vinci 5 is expected to help reduce complications, minimize scarring and shorten recovery times for patients.”
The da Vinci 5 system can be used for minimally invasive surgical procedures for urology, gynecology, thoracic, and general surgeries. With more than 150 new design innovations, the system expands upon core da Vinci system features, including 3DHD visualization, wristed instruments, intuitive motion, force feedback technology and an ergonomic design. Designed to blend seamlessly into program workflows, the robotic-assisted system mimics the movements of the surgeon, translating their hand movements into smaller, more precise movements during a surgical procedure.
On June 25, SDH unveiled this exciting new technology in Jackson. Hands-on demonstrations were facilitated for local media, hospital staff and members of the community. St. Dominic surgeons were on site to discuss the advanced capabilities of the future-forward platform.
"The system simplifies setup and allows us to manage more functions independently from the console, which can help reduce overall procedure time and improve operating room efficiency. Plus, we now have the capability to consult in real time with colleagues in other locations during a procedure—bringing broader expertise into the operating room when needed," added Dr. Paul Seago, a gynecology and oncology surgeon and chief clinical officer at St. Dominic Health.
"The enhanced console is more comfortable and customizable, which can improve focus and reduce fatigue during long or complex surgeries. We also benefit from truer colors and higher resolution imagery, which supports better decision-making and potentially better results," commented Dr. Jenetta Thompson, a general surgeon at St. Dominic Health.
St. Dominic Health now features the latest innovative surgical technology and aims to continually lead by bringing advanced, minimally invasive surgical options to Mississippians.
