Our Lady of the Lake Welcomes 73 New Medical Residents

March 15, 2024

On Friday, March 15, Our Lady of the Lake Health welcomed 73 new residents and fellows through the National Resident Matching Program’s Match Day. This annual event matches medical students with residency programs in their chosen areas of specialty. Graduating medical students across the country receive their match information at the same time on the same day.

Our Lady of the Lake, the largest academic medical center in the region, serves as a training site for hundreds of residents and medical students on the hospital’s campuses each year. Residents work side by side with doctors and clinical teams to provide advanced medical care to patients.

"Residents are integral to Our Lady of the Lake’s commitment to the future of medicine,” said Chuck Spicer, president of Our Lady of the Lake Health. “As a recognized training center for graduate medical education, we welcome the exemplary care, ideas and skills these residents are sure to bring.”

This year’s residents come to Baton Rouge from as far away as India, Vietnam and New Zealand, as well as from close-to-home institutions including LSU Health - New Orleans, LSU Health - Shreveport and Tulane University.

Residents will join the following residency programs at Our Lady of the Lake:

  • Our Lady of the Lake Pediatric Residency
  • LSU Our Lady of the Lake Psychiatry Residency
  • LSU Emergency Medicine Residency
  • LSU Internal Medicine Residency
  • LSU Surgery Residency
  • LSU Ear, Nose and Throat Residency

"We are proud to welcome these 73 talented residents to Our Lady of the Lake and look forward to the positive impact they will make on our care and community,” said Christi Pierce, DSc, vice president of quality and academic affairs at Our Lady of the Lake. “Our Lady of the Lake remains dedicated to fostering the education and training of the next generation of medical leaders through graduate medical education, such as our residency programs.”

Our Lady of the Lake also trains more than 2,000 learners on its campuses each year including students studying nursing, pharmacy and physician assistant studies, among others.
