Our Lady of the Lake Health Partners with Recora for Virtual Cardiac Rehabilitation Program

July 13, 2023

Heart disease patients will now have access to home-based rehab

Our Lady of the Lake Health is now offering virtual cardiac rehabilitation services through Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System’s partnership with Recora. The program expands access for heart disease patients, allowing them to recover from home in a virtual environment in addition to the center-based cardiac rehab facility at Our Lady of the Lake Heart & Vascular Institute.

"Partnering with Recora helps us make these invaluable cardiac recovery services more accessible to our patients,” said John McLachlan, MD, Medical Director of Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab at Our Lady of the Lake Heart & Vascular Institute. “We’re making life-changing impacts to our community by extending services to the comfort of our patients’ homes.”

Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System announced its partnership with Recora in February 2023. Our Lady of the Lake is the first hospital in the health system to launch the cardiac rehabilitation program.

Recora's services remove issues patients often face with transportation and scheduling, along with providing on-demand support from care teams, 24/7 chat, and additional resources available throughout the program. Its partnership with Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System adds to the growing number of hospitals and health systems in the southeast region that are partnering with Recora.

“Cardiac rehab does not have to be limited to in-office care,” said Recora CEO Abhishek Chandra. “Recora’s Virtual Recovery Program allows patients at Our Lady of the Lake Heart & Vascular Institute to have access to resources and 24/7 support for heart-healthy lifestyle from the comfort of their own homes.”

Recora's program has garnered industry-leading results that include:

  1. 15% hospital readmission rate for Recora patients, versus the national average of 43% across Medicare patients with heart failure at six months.
  2. 87% Recora cardiac recovery program completion rate, versus the national average of 26%.
  3. 80% of patients with hypertension markedly improved their blood pressure due to diet and exercise
  4. 94% of Recora patients adhere to their cardiac medication.
  5. 80% improvement of distance and strength gains among Recora patients.
