Dr. Carl McLemore Recognized as 2023 LAFP Family Medicine Physician of the Year

BATON ROUGE, LA — Carl McLemore, MD, family medicine physician at Our Lady of the Lake Physician Group New Roads, was recently honored as the 2023 Family Medicine Physician of the Year by the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians (LAFP). By receiving the award, Dr. McLemore is also nominated for the Family Physician of the Year Award held at the national level by the American Academy of Family Medicine Physicians.

Recipients of the LAFP Family Medicine Physician of the Year Award must be active members of LAFP in good standing and can be nominated by anyone. Nominees should fulfill the following criteria:
  1. Provides his/her patients with compassionate, comprehensive, and caring family medicine on a continuing basis.
  2. Enhances the quality of his/her community by being directly and effectively involved in community affairs and activities.
  3. Acts as a credible role model professionally and personally to his/her community, to other health professionals, and residents and medical students.
  4. Stands out among his/her colleagues.
A family medicine physician with more than 40 years of experience, Dr. McLemore felt like medicine was what he wanted to pursue from an early age. He was influenced by family doctors he knew and wanted to provide family practice in a small town. He feels there is something special about treating patients you know, which gives you a unique insight into their health. 

Dr. McLemore is an active staff member of Pointe Coupee General Hospital in New Roads, a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians, and is Board Certified in family medicine. He is also a preceptor for Tulane University Medical students and Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University Physician Assistant students.
