Our Lady of the Lake Health's Geaux Get Healthy Clinical Program Opens Location in South Baton Rouge

January 23, 2023

BATON ROUGE, LA — Our Lady of the Lake’s Geaux Get Healthy clinical program opened its second location on Thursday, January 19, with a grand opening celebration. The new clinic is at 2041 Silverside Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70808. Geaux Get Healthy’s first location is at Our Lady of the Lake North at 5439 Airline Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70805.

The opening of a second location makes the program more accessible to the Baton Rouge community, especially those closer to south Baton Rouge. All that is required for participation is to screen positive for food insecurity on Geaux Get Healthy’s questionnaire—and those who do now have another location that may be more convenient for them to travel to.

“Surprisingly, over the past couple of years we have had many food insecure community members interested in our program but were unable to attend due to Our Lady of the Lake North being far from where they lived,” said Dr. Tiffany Wesley Ardoin, Geaux Get Healthy clinical program director and internal medicine physician. “We are hoping to provide an opportunity for these people along with those in need in the Gardere area in south Baton Rouge with this new Silverside location.”

Geaux Get Healthy is a project of the Mayor's Healthy City Initiative (HealthyBR) and is a coalition of local organizations working collaboratively to make fresh food affordable and accessible, to develop sustainable programs to reduce food insecurity in our community’s highest-needs neighborhoods, and to co-create a thriving local food landscape. Geaux Get Healthy partners work collaboratively to:

  • Represent the needs of community members;
  • Produce and distribute culturally appropriate, affordable, local food;
  • Eliminate access barriers by creating innovative, place-based distribution mechanisms; and
  • Provide nutrition and food literacy education to support improved community health.

Geaux Get Healthy clinical program participants receive three free cooking classes, a grocery store tour, one free nutrition class with a registered dietician, a free Top Box of food, a gift card to Dollar General and connection to other community resources.

The program is ongoing and eligible participants can join at any point. Learn more about the Geaux Get Healthy clinical program at healthybr.com/ggh.
