Our Lady of Lourdes Health Senior Services & Palliative Care Achieves Exemplar Status for Improving Care for Older Adults

January 04, 2024

2024 NICHE badgeLAFAYETTE, LA – Our Lady of Lourdes Health Senior Services & Palliative Care announces it has achieved Exemplar status for its Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE) program. NICHE recognizes our department’s success in the implementation of high-quality, system-wide interventions and initiatives that demonstrate a commitment to the care of older adults with this highest level of NICHE recognition.

“The compassionate and holistic care provided by our multidisciplinary team touches our elderly patients in the healthcare continuum,” comments Program Manager Pauline Breaux, RN, BSN. “Our providers provide best practices to our community, in addition to resources for patients and caregivers. Our love and our care are reflections of St. Francis and the mission of this hospital.”

Senior Services & Palliative Care submitted a comprehensive report of their program activities for review by NICHE faculty. Based on pre-established criteria, the faculty recommended Exemplar recognition. As an Exemplar NICHE member, the department will continue to provide evidence-based, interdisciplinary approaches that promote better outcomes, positive experiences, and improved care for older adults.

“The leadership and staff of Our Lady of Lourdes Health Senior Services & Palliative Care have demonstrated a tremendous ability to meet the needs of older adults,” says Mattia J. Gilmartin, PhD, RN, FAAN, Executive Director of NICHE. “Their capacity to bring together geriatric nursing resources and support to enhance care marks them as a leader in the field and signals their resolve to provide high-quality, person-centered care for older adults.”

Tracy Vincent, FNP-BC shares, “In keeping with who we are as a ministry, we help those most in need and take care of our elderly patients. To us, this is a very rewarding privilege.”
