The room offers families a “home away from home” just steps from their child’s bed

Our Lady of Lourdes Children’s Health in partnership with Our Lady of Lourdes Foundation and Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Louisiana are pleased to announce the grand opening of the Ronald McDonald Family Room inside Our Lady of Lourdes Women’s & Children’s Hospital.

“We are incredibly proud to be able to provide this Ronald McDonald Family Room for families with patients in our care. It will be invaluable for parents to have a home-like retreat just steps away from their child’s bedside,” said Jeigh Stipe, Senior Director, Our Lady of Lourdes Foundation. “This space will provide families and other caregivers a place to rest and recharge amidst the emotional and mental tolls that a hospital stay can take on them.”

Officially opening to the public on November 14, 2022, the Family Room offers onsite respite, lodging, food, and compassionate family-centered care to keep parents and caregivers close to their children in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Our Lady of Lourdes Women’s & Children’s Hospital’s PICU is one of the largest in the state of Louisiana and serves as a regional hub for life-saving pediatric care. The 1,500-square-foot Ronald McDonald Family Room features:

  • A children’s play area
  • Private bathrooms with shower facilities
  • Dining area
  • Internet access
  • Three sleeping rooms
  • Kitchen
  • Common area
  • Laundry facilities

The Family Room will be staffed with volunteers, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week, with services provided at no cost to families approved to use the space.

“As the first Ronald McDonald Family Room in the state, we are truly excited about this vital partnership with Our Lady of Lourdes Women’s and Children’s Hospital and the opportunity to serve even more families throughout Acadiana,” said Grace McIntosh, Executive Director of Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Louisiana. “Our Family Room will provide comfortable spaces to recharge and reinvigorate families just steps away from their healthcare teams and allow for them to truly focus on the wellness of their ill or injured child. We are deeply humbled and grateful to have the Krampe Family and MacLaff organization’s dedicated investment in spearheading Louisiana’s first on-site, family-centered care facility and for their continued support of our mission at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Louisiana throughout their 50th anniversary year celebration.”
