Trauma Community Outreach

Sudden Impact Teen Program
Sudden Impact is a unique program to educate teens, promote healthy decisions and encourage them to refrain from high-risk behavior while in a motor vehicle. OLOL and the Louisiana State Police (LSP) work together on this program to reduce the physical, financial and emotional costs of motor vehicle crashes.

The seven-hour program for high school sophomores, located at OLOL, places the teens in an unfamiliar environment while providing education on laws, decisions, communication and impairment. State troopers and trauma prevention specialists and nurses talk to teens about the importance of seat belt use, the dangers of texting and driving, and the dangers of impaired driving.

In 2012, 4500 students from 15 high schools participated in the Sudden Impact program through the Baton Rouge team. In 2012, The Sudden Impact program began its implementation for a statewide program.

SLIP – Senior Life and Injury Prevention
The Trauma Specialist Program offers community presentations using the “Senior Life & Injury Prevention (SLIP)” program, which consists of six different presentations aimed toward independent older adults.
